Abstrakt:

First find of the anatase in the carbonate concretion mineralization of the czech part of the Upper Silesian basin (Silesia, Czech Republic)

Carbonate concretions from the terrestrial sediments of Upper Suchá Member of the Karviná Formation (Czech part of the Upper Silesian Basin) stratigraphically belong to Bashkirian stage of the Pennsylvanian subperiod. They can reach more than 1 meter in size. In the past, they yielded important low-temperature hydrothermal mineralization from the septarian cracks, including calcite, Fe-rich dolomite, apatite, baryte, millerite, and common Cu, Zn, Pb, and Fe sulphides. New to this mineral assemblage is a confirmed presence of anatase. It forms platy aggregate ca. 450×50 μm in size on the quartz crystal. EDS analysis of the natural (unpolished) sample gives empirical formula Ti0,9Si0,1O2,0. Observed Raman peaks at 142, 197, 394, 516, and 638 cm-1 fit to the published anatase vibrations well. We believe that this report is first reliable description of mineral from the TiO2 group in the hydrothermal mineralization of the Carboniferous sedimentary sequence of the Upper Silesian Basin.
