Abstract:

The Loess of the National Park Podyjí (Moravia, Czech Republic)

During the years 2002, 2003 and 2004, the reambulance of the geological map of the National park Podyjí was made. It focused on the specification of the extent of loess in the given area. The boundaries of loess accumulations were specified by the results of field research, even the new occurences of loess were documented. The loess in the National park Podyjí primarly forms smaller accumulations spread all over the territory. Accumulations which are larger in size are less common. There were documented slope movements on many loess accumulations. Loess contain therefore an elevated amount of sandy particles. The age of loess is usually upper würm. The discovery of malacofauna proves that sedimentation occurred in cold harsh environments in the last glacial cycle. The collected samples were analysed to evaluate their homogeneity (e.g. carbonate content, whole-rock chemistry, gammaspectrometry, magnetic susceptibility). Chemical analysis was pursued as well and its results are comparable with the values measured in the Dyjskosvratecký úval. According to the grain-size analysis, the loess from the National park Podyjí can be classified as sandy loess. Loess on the studied area is very unhomogenous sediments according to all accomplished analysises. Loess are greatly affect by basement composition, probably in consequence of slope movements.
