Abstract:

Chemical composition of garnets from loess deposits in the Dyje-Svratka Ravine

There were three loess deposits localities studied at the western margin of the Dyje-Svratka Ravine and in the Mikulov Upland Areas. The Modřice, Horní Dunajovice and Dolní Věstonice localities are concerned consequently. All the samples studied were taken from the Last Glacial layer. The principal point of our research was to determine provenance areas of loess material sampled applying data both on heavy mineral assemblages and garnets chemical composition. Semi-quantitative analyses of the heavy mineral assemblages and their chemical compositions referred to the westward-situated provenance areas, i.e. eluvium accumulations derived from the crystalline units of the Bohemian Massif strictly speaking. Moreover, a certain portion of the material having originated from the Neogene deposits seems to be prospective here.
