Abstract:

Morphological and osteological analysis of the Oligocene species Vinciguerria obscura Danilchenko, 1946 (Teleostei family Photichthyidaeí from the Oligocene ofthe Carpathians (Czech Republic)

Osteology and morphology of the Oligocene species Vinciguerria obscura Danilehenko, 1946 from the Menilitie Formation of Moravia (Czech Republic) was analyzed and compared with the other fossil and recent species of Vinciguerria. The principal differences between the fossil species of Vinciguerria described by Danilchenko are at the level of the morphometric characters and some meristics characters as the number of the vertebrae and rays in the anal fin. But if we compare the variability of these characters within the species of the recent Vinciguerria with the extinct ones we can see that this variability could correspond to one species.
