Abstract:

Cordierite – sekaninaite from the contact aureole of the Žulová granite pluton, eastern Variscan front, Czech Republic

Migmatites related to the periplutonie HT/LP-MP metamorphism ofthe Žulová pluton (eastern Variscan front) carry the assemblage: quartz + plagioclase + K-feldspar + biotite + garnet + sillimanite + cordierite+ ilmenite. Cordierite displays wide compositional variability ranging between 6.83-13.68 wt. % FeOtot, 4.72-9.28 wt. % MgO, and 0.0-0.77 wt. % MnO corresponding to 30-62 mol. % of sekaninaite (Fe-cordierite) and 38-70 mol. % of cordierite (Mg-cordierite). This paper brings new data showing relative abundance of Fe-cordierite along with chemical compositions of associated minerals.
