Occurence of rutile in deluvial sediments at Dobrá Voda near Velké Meziříčí, Moldanubian zone

Occurrence of rutile in area village of Dobrá Voda near Velké Meziříčí (western Moravia) is one of the most significant localities in Moravia. Its findings come from deluvial Quaternary sediments developed on weathered biotite gneisses of Gföhl Unit (Moldanubian Zone). Between 2002 and 2013 four local occurrences supplied 2,837 pieces of of rutile with a total weight of 60 kg. Pebbles consisting of reddish brown rutile core and narrow outer rim of black ilmenite forms loosely deposited rounded fragments up to >5 cm in size. The findings were divided into 6 weight categories by weight, from usual (1–30 g) to unique fragments (>131 g). The biggest piece has 372.3 g. The large rutile grains, on the periphery gradually replaced of younger ilmenite, were derived from quartz and quartz-feldspar nests and dykes of leucosome presented in underlying gneiss.
