History of palaeontological investigations in permo-carboniferous deposits of the Boskovice Graben (Moravia)

Permo-Carboniferous deposits of the Boskovice Graben are systematically investigated since the middle of the 19th century; however, the oldest mentions of sedimentary occupation of this geologically and palaeontologically important area reach back to the twenties of the 19th century. Although the history of palaeontological and stratigraphic-palaeontological investigations has already been resumed several times, no resumes of investigations expressed the Permo-Carboniferous deposits of the Boskovice Graben in its full scope. Moreover, the last detailed overviews were published by J. Augusta almost fifty years ago. This contribution gives hitherto the most detailed and overall overview of palaeontological and stratigraphic-palaeontological investigations in this area. Altogether 43 palaeontological localities have been distinguished in the Boskovice Graben [15 localities are situated in the southern part (Rosice-Oslavany Basin), 28 localities are situated in the northern part (Letovice Basin)] on the basis of mostly published data. The topographical position of most of known localities was plotted into maps on scale of 1:50 000 (24-33 Moravský Krumlov; 24-34 Ivančice; 24-32 Brno; 24-14 Boskovice; 24-12 Letovice; 24-21 Jevíčko) and the text is supplemented by tables of occurrences of both phytopalaeontological and zoopalaeontological material in individual localities. The paper also refers on the necessity of protection of unique palaeontological localities and its assemblages.
